It is National Self-Care week here in the UK. We are big fans of self-care here at Bionutri. One cannot pour from an empty cup – how can we help others if we aren’t looking after ourselves?
Self-care for many could sound like a selfish act. I think the average person has about 17 things on their daily to do list, and I would take a guess that self-care isn’t on that list, but I think it should be.
So what does self-care really look like?
I talk to all my clients about the importance of this. Especially since I work with predominantly women and mums, who generally tend to never put themselves first, ever. Self-Care doesn’t have to mean meditating for 30 minutes per day (however beneficial that could be!).
Self-care can include:
Saying ‘no’ to a commitment that you don’t want to make
Lighting some candles and having a relaxing bath
Going to bed 1 hour earlier
Going for a walk
Booking a weekly or monthly outing with a partner or pal
Getting a new hair do
Sitting in the sunshine for your morning break
Cuddling up to a fictional book in the evening (not a “work” book)
Letting your child watch 30 minutes of TV so you can sit down and have a cuppa.
Take at least 20 minutes per day for yourself. This is self-care and before you say you don’t have time, the average person watches 3 hours of TV per day! I am sure those TV streaming services can wait.
